TORAYPEF® Polyolefin Foam

Technical Information | Excellent shock-absorbance

Dynamic damping properties

TORAYPEF® possesses semi-rigid compressive properties, so it does not bottom-out upon impact as a soft urethane foam does. Moreover, the superb elasticity of TORAYPEF® prevents the brittle failure seen in polystyrene foam. These attributes provide TORAYPEF® with its highly acclaimed damping properties. Figure 1 shows the change in damping properties after repeated impact. TORAYPEF® exhibits virtually no change in damping properties after dozens of repeated impact events. This is a significant advantage over widely used conventional polystyrene foams. Figure 2 compares the dynamic damping properties curves (C-P curve) of TORAYPEF® and other damping materials.
