Using proprietary fermentation and microbiological techniques, and optical resolution agents and other techniques for organic synthesis, Toray produces a diverse range of chiral compounds including non-natural D-tartaric acid, L-PTTA and other tartaric acid derivatives, D-alanine and other building blocks used in the contract production of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Toray's Coatax* acrylic resin, is used to make paints with outstanding weather, chemical, and stain resistance, and provides a beautiful finish featuring high gloss and brightness. With these characteristics Coatax* has been used for electrodeposited paints on aluminum window sashes, plastic coatings for automobile applications, and a wide range of coating materials for household electrical appliances, construction materials and ordinary metals.

Toray's water-soluble nylon is a modified polyamide that has solubility in water and alcohl. This enables it to absorb moisture, a function not available with conventional nylon.
